EXCUSES THAT WILL RUIN YOUR DIETARY GOALS

Wouldn't it be easy to stick to a healthy diet if you lived in a world with only grilled chicken breasts, broccoli and oats?  Unfortunately this just isn't realistic. There are going to be times when you will encounter foods you shouldn't be eating, and you will be faced with a choice: give in to the craving or stick to your healthy lifestyle plan.  I work with people who have issues with weight management and emotional eating, and one thing they all have in common is that they all make excuses to stop following their diets. The most important weapon against falling off of the diet-wagon is to anticipate sabotaging thoughts and responses to them.
NO MORE EXCUSES!!!

“But how do I know I'm making an excuse”?
  1. If your thought starts with, "I can eat this because ..." then it's an excuse
  2. If you didn't already plan to eat it today, it's an excuse.
  3. If the food is sugary, salty or full of refined carbs, it's likely an excuse.   (Think about it ... have you ever rationalised why you should be eating veggies or lean protein)? Of course not.
After you have realised you are making excuses, the second step is to overcome that excuse with a rational thought of why these excuses are destructive and will only make you feel worse in the long run.

1. Hm It's 4pm and I'm tired. This will give me a boost to get through the rest of the day.
A boost???, If I get a boost it will be because my blood sugar is skyrocketing which means it will plummet later, leaving me more tired and cranky than I am now. Hmm on the other hand some almonds (or another healthy, planned snack), will help me feel sharp and healthy for the rest of the day.

2. I have been sooo good lately. I totally deserve a reward.
Actually, if I eat this it won't be a reward at all. It will only push my goal further away, and no doubt will make me feel depressed, weak and out of control. I'm going to choose to stay confident and in control of my diet and say no.

3. Just one.. It wont hurt.
I have to run X kms to burn about 100 cals. This has X00 calories, which means I have to run X kms, in addition to my already planned cardio today. Besides, I know if I have one, I'll have an even harder time saying no to number two and number three.

4. I'm exhausted. There is no way I can cook tonight, I’m gunna go through the drive thru.
I may be tired, but I can figure some other easy way to feed myself. There are more calories in some fast food combo meals than my body needs all day! I can go to a salad bar in the supermarket/grocer, or buy the grilled chicken breasts they sell in the deli. (Mind you I should have my planned meal packed and ready to avoid this)

5. There’s nothing to eat and I’m hungry!
Being hungry won't kill me! It's better to feel uncomfortable and wait until I can eat something health than eat some junk food right now.
I'd rather drink a glass of cold water and wait until I can eat something healthy. Being temporarily uncomfortable won't kill me, but junk food will.

6. Work has been full on, I’ve been fighting with my BF/GF, That shop assistant was so rude to me, I got a parking fine, you know what? I'm having a bad day/week. I just don’t have time for this right now. Eating this will make me feel so much better.
WAIT RIGHT THERE!!!  If someone does something to make me angry or sad, why do I want to punish myself by eating unhealthy foods?
First of all, I won't let others dictate my emotions.
Second, so I'm having a bad day, which I can't really control. What I can control, however, is what goes into my body.
Third, I'm recognising that its an emotion that's making me want to eat right now, not hunger which should be the only reason for eating. So I'm going to give myself a boost and pat myself on the back for sticking to my plan and staying healthy. I will feel so much better when all of this passes and I am still on track.

7. Woooohooo I Just got the best news!!! I am going to celebrate with this little treat!
If I eat this, it won't help me enjoy this accomplishment at all. In fact, it'll impede another accomplishment I'm working toward.
This is just another case where an emotion is making me want to eat, which isn't acceptable.I can completely enjoy these good feelings I'm experiencing without food. And I look forward to reaching my weight loss goal. NOW that is something to celebrate!

8. I paid for it I don’t want to waste money.
How much money am I really losing by throwing this extra food out? It's really not that much. Will these extra dollars make or break me?
Of course not. Besides, time is money, and it will take loads of extra time working out to burn this off later.

9. I HATE wasting food!
No starving child in another country will benefit from me eating this extra food. It didn't make sense while I was a kid, and it doesn't make sense now. Sure, I may be wasting food, but I'd rather throw it out than unnecessarily add fat to my body and steer me away from my progress and a healthy body.

10. But everyone else is eating it.
I'm committed to a healthy lifestyle, regardless of what others around me are doing. Besides, people who eat junk food who aren't overweight are still at risk for many serious health problems. So what if they are eating it, I'm sticking to my commitment.

11. It's free.
Being free may be a benefit, but is it good for me, and is it on my eating plan for the day? No. Eating free food now isn't going to save me any money later. All it will do is push my goals further away from me.

12. I'll start back on my diet tomorrow.
While I can always get back to my diet after a slip, why waste it? There's no time like the present to work toward my goal of weight loss and healthy living. Besides, I know it won't be that easy to psychologically get over falling off track.
I'll feel guilty, depressed and weak, which will probably make me crave more bad food to feel better and I will likely fall off the program all together and be back to square one or worse. I'm going to avoid the vicious cycle all together, and stick with my plan.

13. I don’t care anymore.
I've been sticking to my diet for a while now, and I understand that I'm experiencing a drop in motivation, which is normal. I'm going to do what I need to do to get motivated now, which will make it easier to stay on track in the long run, by writing down my long term weight loss goals and why losing weight is important to me.
Besides, I really do care! I care about my body, I care about my health and longevity, my family and I care about my psychological well-being. I'm sticking to my diet because I care about myself too much to quit now!

14. I’m so busy I just don’t have the time.
It really does not take that long to prepare a healthy meal. If I’m not going to eat that I will eat something else. You make time for the things that are important. Your health is important. I will make the time and before I know it, it will be a normal part of my daily routine.

15. But I am sick and don’t feel like it.
Being sick doesn’t mean its time to drop everything. In fact your healthy eating plan will likely help you recover faster. OK OK Il stick to it, I know right now is when my body needs all the good nutrition it can get.

16. I’m bed ridden,  unable to exercise I’m just so big.  If I can’t exercise what’s the point?
The point is you are now at a stage that is dangerous. Your life is in danger.
I have a life to live, I have children, a family, people who care about me. I need to care about me.
Beside there are programs that can be undertaken at this stage, without surgery that are yummy and nutritious and that will help me loose weight even as I lie here. Then when I am at the next stage I will be up and walking, before I know it ill be jogging and it really is a reality that I can get my healthy young fit body back and live.  I chose to live.

OK, you made it through! You recognised that you were making an excuse, and you stopped to think of why that excuse was only going to pull you off track and push your weight loss goal further away. It's crucial to revel in the feelings of confidence and control. Next time you make an excuse, remember this feeling of success, and compare it with how gross you would have felt had you given in to your excuse.

Now move forward and keep on reaching for success.
DO OR DO NOT…. THERE IS NO TRY…

WEIGHT WATCHING

WEIGHT WATCHING

Personally, I don't like weighing myself. In fact I rarely have over the past 8yrs.
I know my body well enough these days that I have a good idea of whats going on, and I believe in going by the way clothes are fitting, and various measurements.

However we do have weigh ins on the program, paired with taking measurements. Its kind of important while monitoring your progress.

I’d love to come out and tell you not to weigh yourself often, only when its time to just go off off visual changes.  But I know most of you won’t listen to that and are going to continue to weigh yourself and use the scale as your regular method of tracking progress.
(for those of you reading and not working with SCG Body I hope you’re using pictures, clothes, measurements, etc as well).

The problem with doing this is many do not understand the bodies cycle in loosing fat. The highs and lows, it can be a bit of an emotional upheaval if you notice an increase in your weight and you are really working your butt off and on track with your eating.

My number one tip for staying emotion free when weighing:

ONLY TAKE NOTE OF YOUR DROPS.
This means keeping record (on paper or in your mind) of drops in weight.  Fluctuations are normal and should be expected.  When you see a drop, EXPECT it to go up before you see it go down again.

If you are standing there watching the scales like a hawk and expecting steady loss, with no fluctuations and getting emotionally tied into a NUMBER you are going to be unnecessarily stressed, wasting energy that could be used on better things.

So why does this happen?
There are several reasons,  (I am not going to get all technical here, lets keep it simple) for women,  if you are due for your monthly cycle, this will cause a short increase in weight,
However simply put  fat cells will hold water before they drop. And on the cycle will go.   (Hmmmmmm.. Other reasons aside a good idea to guzzle that water I think).

So do not get discouraged when you go day after day without the weight going down.  Usually the longer it takes to get that next “drop” the LOWER it will be!

So when you go day after day of 100% on your plan, don’t get frustrated…. GET EXCITED!!
When days pass without a new drop, DO NOT GO OFF PLAN or you might not see the new drop that is just WAITING around the corner for you.
It’s there… you just gotta keep earning it!!

STICK TO THE PLAN THE PLAN WORKS…

SCG BODY

Lets get brutally honest;

Do you struggle with weight problems?
Or have you been on a program and lost a lot of weight and are now struggling to maintain that way of living and eating just to keep the new body you have.?

If I said I can help you, be honest, what would you think?
(I bet you are already thinking this)

OH here we go, another skinny, fit chick jumping on the diet/weight-loss wagon telling me she can help!Have you had kids? A baby belly, stretch marks or saggy boobs & wobbly bits?I bet if you sniff a cookie you don’t gain a cake?!And how can you relate to the fact that regardless of what I do nothing budges? You want me to pay money for common knowledge and sense? or  spend money on special potions or ask me to only consume lettuce leaves, or that apple, all so I can fit into a bikini this summer.
I like my food! So stop teasing me, like so many other people & programs full of empty promises and get back to what you know SC!

What if I tell you I know exactly what you are talking about because I have been right where you are, and probably worse.
If I told you at one stage in my life I was morbidly obese would you believe me?
That I come from genes that metabolically speaking really wants me to be fat?
(Not imaginary fat, really fat).

I have had to work hard to be where I am today and I promise you my results are not just because I used common sense and some google searching.

I have spend over 18 years in the fitness industry, working with and learning from some of the best men and women there are In New Zealand, Australia and USA.
I also was lucky enough to study a bachelor in nursing. This has given me experience in diet, nutrition and the training necessary to really help you.

I have personally developed programs after I was faced with the challenge of being morbidly obese and nothing else would work. I have beaten the battle and have privately helped many others over the years to do the same.

So why come forward and do this now, you may ask?

Like you I am tired of the gimmicks. I am sick of people who have no first hand experience in dealing with many of the REAL issues we are faced with when over weight, out of shape or just need to develop a healthier lifestyle.

Many of these program developers have never had a fat day in their life, no children and so on and yet they can give advise as to how to do it and offer empathy and encouragement on something they can not relate to.

I do not like seeing people being taken advantage of, paying hard earned money for something that is simply common knowledge and without the support and backing to maintain it for life.
It's sad how many diets people will try in their life and how much will be spent not just financially but physically and emotionally to then hit the wall of how to maintain this? How to keep it off? How to stay motivated? How to make it a lifestyle when you don’t enjoy what you are doing.

I am honest when I say I have been there. I have faced countless challenges and over come them and have maintained my body for 8yrs now.  I am not only successful in my career as director/pro photographer of SCG but a recognised international fitness model at 38. If I can do it..... Anyone can...

Yes. This is me. (I will share my story another day)

I used my knowledge, experience, years of research and medical background to develop programs that work.  I have tried and tested many of them on myself and the ones I can not use (because I recognize we all have different bodies and problems) many have volunteered, followed and succeeded.

I offer plans that are designed for individuals. Not one size fits all.

So while I am anti deleting/ destroying any image taken I burnt most of my fat pictures. I am glad I have a couple I can share with you all to show you how far I have come, how hard I had to fight. But mostly to give those of you who are in that place now, a sense of hope and a feeling that it is possible.
I do find it hard to put this out there. But you are all worth it.

SAVING FACE

I realize this is a debatable topic and that it is not for everyone.
The content of this blog is simply my own opinion based on my personal experiences. I will not only talk about Botox and fillers but share my experience and reasons for having this work done. Pics and all!!!!
That aside you cant be in my industry and be against it.
I just dont play ignornat or pretend to not have work done.

I know people who have been dead against it and thought I was crazy till they were there with me in person and before their eyes saw the work done and the effects. Within 10 minutes, her mind was changed forever!!!

There are MANY men and women out there who debate to jab or not to jab?
And there are so many reasons one may consider getting Botox or fillers.
The most common reason being those who want a little help to preserve youth, reverse the signs of aging. I mean who doesn't want to look younger longer?
One day you look in the mirror and think 'WOW is that me"? and not 'ohlala WOW..
Getting older is inevitable with that comes the thinning skin, wrinkles, laugh lines, crows feet, age spots.... OH and wisdom LOL, well we hope we have a little by the time we are reaching the wrinkled stage.
It's not always us middle agers or the elderly needing to do it. Look at what stress, illness, harsh work environments can do to ones appearance.
It could be for work related reasons. If you are in the media you are a 'Product' and lets not get BUT thats so wrong... ITS fact that that is how the industry is and if you let your product ware out and dont keep up, your out and there are countless others in line and ready to replace you.  Fillers are also used to correct facial symmetry, reduce the appearance in scars.
Botox is not just used to reduce the signs of aging it is also used to treat many other conditions due to its effect of inhibiting the contraction of muscles.
It is used to treat those with extreme sweating, migraine, teeth grinding, and urinary problems such as incontinence, cerebral palsy, postsurgical pain. Infact it can even be covered by health insurance for specific conditions and suitable candidates.

Early intervention
Why do people think its only for the middle aged and up???
For some younger women — females make up 90 percent of all cosmetic surgery procedures — it's as much about preventing wrinkles as hiding them.
"I have no doubt that treating with Botox at young age delays wrinkles," says Fagien.
"What happens is there may be a role in preserving muscle attachments ... a lot of things that occur [in facial aging] relate to chronic muscle movement over the years."
St. Louis plastic surgeon Dr. Leroy Young believes that "if the wrinkle never gets started it won’t be as bad later."

How young is too young?
"If the patient is 18 or older, treatment is concidered acceptable.
"Why wait until you have a problem?"
Early intervention may be good for protecting the skin from the sun's damaging rays.

What's wrong with a few lines?
"Nothing, as long as you're comfortable with them,"
It really is a personal choice.

As a photographer, someone who manages models and talent and a makeup artist.  There are many I would sugest treatment to, perhaps just a little tweak would make all the difference on a positive level to their facial symmetry, balance or to prevent the talking forehead...

My story and personal experience.

For myself , I had my first treatment 2yrs ago. Luckily I had been referred to one on USAs best Dermatologists/Face Drs. Proven as he works on many celebrities and common SCG alliances.
I knew I was in safe hands.

However my reasons for going, I had been a very naughty girl and had been a horrific tanorexic for as long as I can remember. I have used tanning beds for at least 19yrs. (we will talk about tanning more another day).
To be honest, I didn't look as bad as i could have given the degree of sun exposure!
I had also been through a very emotionally traumatic time and i swear within 3 months aged 20yrs.
I was almost unrecognizable. I did not look or feel like myself at all.
And I certainly would not have been able to model or represent SCG the way I am expected to.
First picture Prior to ANY face work - Not dates and how fast changes occured
When in looked in the mirror i no longer saw my face but a tired much older person.
Even my children noticed the changes.

In my industry, you are the face of your product.
If I am meant to promote, health and beauty and i look haggered, it just doesn't work. Its not vanity its a harsh fact in a competitive industry and its called maintenance.

I was one of the lucky people to have been introduced to such an amazing Dr on the first time as not all of us have access to this information.

You have to be so careful when getting this type of work done. You cannot just have anyone touch your face! It is a scary decision and choosing a Dr should not be taken lightly.
One shot in the wrong place and you would wish for your old face back or worse that youd never ever had it done. :/

How to find your Dr. I believe in personal referral 110%
In USA I would only ever see one man Dr Chris Crawford from the Dallas Associated Dermatologists
http://dallasassocderm.com/

Not only did I look younger and healthier but he gave me 'MY' face back!
The only Xtra I got was the new lips :)
Which I love and now I actually look like my daughters mother! Argh to have those fat lips naturally!
The first time, I definitely had swelling and a little bruising as you can see here. This was taken 9hrs after. Was gone within the week. Did it hurt? The treatment was minimal pain. It was the first 24hrs after I had pain.  Now days I dont get any :)

Dr Crawford is incredible!! He was careful, took everything into consideration and worked like an artist. Looking at my face in a way I recognize in myself when I am creating art.
Results amazing!

AUSTRALIA... After really searching out for some time, I found a Dr who could be trusted to touch my face on this side of the world a miracle worker. She is INCREDIBLE!
Again found via word of mouth... I made friends with some girls (once you have had work you notice who has and who hasnt). These girls looked sooooo good!!! So I was lucky enough to meet their Dr.  Like the fabulous Dr Crawford, she is an artist, she is careful, kind, considerate and is not there to make a quick buck.
I have found her techniques differ but I also have found that I now need less and less work and I do not get the swelling at all like I used to when I first started.  Its brilliant! She is brilliant and does magic with lips :)
This Dr operates a clinic in Sydney or travels to each state a weekend once a month. Please contact me if you would like to book an appointment for the next time she is in your area.
Her work??? The pictures at the top of this blog of myself was only a few days after my first treatment with her and I will post a few more for you to see. All untouched, no editing at all!!!
I think at 38 Im not looking too bad and I certainly dont look fake or like I have had work done.
I think that right there is pretty evident she can be trusted if you decide to take the step.
So shoot me an email: sarah@sarahcampbell.com for more info.
